Background

Mukono Multi-purpose Youth Organisation (MUMYO) is a Non-Profit Organization founded in 1992 to promote the rights and well- being of the young men and women, especially in the rural areas.  It was formed by a group of seven people, men and women, who found it necessary to form an organization that would promote the exchange of views, information and experiences for social and economic development.

The young men and women play an important role in the sustainable development of the communities they live. They contribute to their family incomes, advocate for their rights and stand at the fore front of efforts for positive changes. However, their efforts have underscored numerous obstacles due to extreme poverty,  HIV/AIDS and other social problems, which has made it difficult for the youth to enjoy their lives under a peasant environment.

It is not for granted that they are operating under such conditions, they lack the necessary motivation and incentives for change, lack skills in the farm, financial and operation management. We also believe that engaging the youth and addressing their needs is critical to our organization mission to ending poverty and empowering them to take charge of their destiny and become forces of social change. There is also need to address the specific and adverse needs of the young people, such as, access to information and resources to support sustainable rural development initiatives for self-reliance.
